Tips in this Tour:
Take a cover up when you visit the champagne cellars: they can be chilly. Also wear comfortable shoes: most cellar visits will involve climbing up and down steps. Some champagne houses can accommodate the needs of families with children and people with disabilities, so call ahead if you are traveling with a person with reduced mobility.
Take frequent breaks at the many sidewalk cafes. You will be able to maintain your energy throughout the day and also take in more of the local atmosphere. People watching is one of the favorite French pastimes.
Want to know if you should tip in Reims? If the bill says “service compri” this means the tip is included. However, you won’t go wrong adding an extra ten percent if you are satisfied with the service.
At the end of September and the beginning of October the area explodes with life during the harvest. Over 100,000 seasonal workers descend on the area, and many visitors as well. It’s a great time to visit but be sure to book ahead if you are planning to come during this season.
There is a splendid TGV EST (high-speed train) that joins Paris Gare de l’Est and Reims in less than 45 minutes. It is quite an experience and much more relaxing than driving. All attractions are within walking distance from the train station.
