Medieval Dublin

Set alongside Ireland's eastern coast, Dublin is just a short trip from the beautiful beach cities in County Fingal. This medieval tour explores some of the oldest buildings in the heart of Dublin. First we will stop at Trinity College, home to the book of Kells. Next, we learn how Irish women used to "save face" or "lose face" sitting by the fires of Dublin Castle. For lunch we can visit the country's oldest restaurant or stop at one of the many eateries in the famous Temple Bar area. Then we'll finish the tour with a visit to the country's medieval churches.

If you have an ID card, carry it with you to Dublin. Most tours offer lower rates for students, seniors and children. Some tours have group specials as well; make sure to check the rates before purchasing.
Arrive early at Ireland's TrinityCastle to see the Book of Kells. Admission begins at 9:30 (12 noon for Sundays during October-April). Between the hours of 10 and 11, the line quadruples in length.
Dublin Castle tours run on a pre-existing schedule. Tickets sell out around 1-2 hours in advance, depending on the time of day and the season. Plan for this by purchasing tickets before exploring the rest of the castle grounds: Revenue Museum, Gift Shop, Cafe, Garden and Library - or use the waiting time for lunch.
A favorite joke among Irish tour guides: "If the skies are gray, it's probably raining. If the skies are blue, it's probably going to rain." So make sure to have rain gear in hand as you travel through Ireland. The skies can change from blue to gray in moments, and before you know it, you might be fighting forces of nature if not prepared. Though the showers may not endure, they are frequent and unpredictable.
In Dublin, get acquainted with the Dart and bus schedule. Though you won't need to take public transportation during this tour, you may need to ride the Dart into or out of downtown at the start or end of your tour.
