City Tour Of Santiago, Chile

The Andes Mountains form a spectacular backdrop for this fast-paced and modern metropolis, which proudly maintains its original Spanish colonial architecture. Santiago is the starting point for eager cruise ship passengers, dynamic business travelers and happy-go-lucky backpackers, all ready to explore one of the world’s most promising destinations. Take a walk up to breathtaking high-altitude lookouts with magnificent views of the city. Then select from a myriad of refined restaurants that offer delicious local seafood and a host of international dishes.

Tips in this Tour:
Santiago is essentially a commercial city: only in the past decade has it become an important tourist destination.
Most of the citizens, especially around El Centro, are business people and usually wear suits and ties. Avoid dressing as if you are on a mountain hike. No need for backpacks.
Even though the numbers of visitors from the US, Canada and Europe have increased tremendously in the past decade, it is still difficult to find English-speaking people on the street: taxi drivers, restaurant waiters, shop attendants, and police only speak Spanish.
When you want to change foreign currency (e.g. dollars or euros), the best place to go is Agustinas Street in El Centro. Only use the exchange houses.
Avoid walking around El Centro or Bellavista during late hours of the night. Use a hotel taxi, especially on weekends.
