Quebec City: Canada's Charming Nouvelle France

The “Cradle of French Civilization in North America” is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Located on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River, this is the only remaining fortified city in North America. The Laurentian Mountains, perfect for outdoor recreation, rise to the north. Among the nearby attractions are Montmorency Falls, Orleans Island, whitewater rafting on the Jacques-Cartier River, and a famous pilgrimage route to Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré.

Tips in this Tour:
Because of its compact size the Old City is fairly easy to navigate, especially on foot or by bicycle.
Since Quebec City is 97% French-speaking, a basic knowledge of the French language is recommended for all visitors.
The modern visitor will find nearly all signs written in both French and English.
Quebec City is internationally known for its lively festivals. These (and most points of interest) are found within or very close to Vieux-Québec (Old Quebec).
To travel within the boroughs it is necessary to take public transportation or rent a car. Most U.S. rental car companies will allow drivers to cross the border into Canada at no extra charge. Passports are now required for all U.S. and Canadian citizens when arriving at a border crossing or international airport.
