Tips in this Tour:   Read More
Toronto has so many different cultural opportunities; you would have to spend a year here to experience half of them. If you only have a few days, choose one or two nationalities. If you desperately wanted to go to India, Thailand or Greece this year but couldn't, you might want to concentrate on those countries.
Toronto has amazing temples, mosques, and great international food. It has many foreign-born people; you can find food, beer and clothes from their native lands. Flight tickets to their homeland can be cheaper because of the volume. Spend time here before you go anywhere else: it's a great introduction to the world.
Look for a Toronto-based foreign tourist office or consulate. Staff there should be able to tell you about their own favorite restaurants, grocery stores and festivals. If you are looking for British high tea, for example, phone Visit Britain or the British Consulate.
Plan much of your trip before you arrive. Toronto has festivals year round. You can get around downtown by public transportation but to see places in the suburbs, it's best to take a car. Get a good map or GPS. Local travel agencies should be able to help.
The sign outside restaurants LLBO means liquor and beer are sold there with meals and the place has passed inspection. A green sign with "Passed" means city health inspectors have given their approval. Don't be afraid to check restaurants yourself before committing yourself to a meal there. Ask to see a menu. Check buffets.
