Ottawa, Canada's Capital - The Perfect Walking Tour

Ottawa is often overshadowed by its larger neighbors, but the country's capital has much for visitors to enjoy and warrants more than a fleeting glance. Explore the origins of the city, the superlative museums commemorating Canada's past, and enjoy a riverside skyline so utterly photogenic you’ll need a spare memory card to do it justice. Never far away is the iconic Peace Tower, part of the parliament buildings that serve as Ottawa’s enchanting centerpiece. No need for five-hour strolls or subway rides; compact Ottawa is perfect for a walking tour and boasts all the excitement and sparkle of city life!

Tips in this Tour:
If you want to take a tour inside the parliament buildings, make sure you arrive early. By lunchtime all free tickets for the rest of the day have usually been snapped up.
Ottawa's main museums are free on Thursday evenings after 5pm (including the National Gallery and the Museum of Civilisation), so visit then if at all possible.
Don't forget to grab a transfer ticket if you're using buses. These allow you to use any bus in Ottawa or Gatineau for a couple of hours (check the time on your ticket).
If you're visiting in winter, bring thermals, good gloves, and be prepared for biting cold. But don't let it put you off: Ottawa embraces its Arctic winter and this is a beautiful time to visit.
Make sure you book well ahead in summer, as hotels, restaurants, and guided tours fill up quickly. Canada Day (July 1st) is a great time to visit, though it is, perhaps, the busiest time of the year.
