Exotic Palm Springs California

Lying just two hours east of Los Angeles or San Diego, and a one-hour flight from San Francisco, Palm Springs has long been the favorite hideaway of Hollywood stars. Set amidst a breathtaking mountain backdrop, the European-style "village" welcomes hikers, golfers, spa enthusiasts, or simply anyone wishing to relax. Palm trees, swimming pools, street markets, outdoor restaurants and cafes, and Mid-Century Modern architecture abound. Choose from dozens of stylish yet affordable unique intimate lodgings. There’s plenty to see and do, too - a revolving aerial tramway, vintage furniture shops, art galleries, a casino, native American culture, and former Hollywood stars’ homes.

Tips in this Tour:
Any stay in Palm Springs should include a Thursday night, when the Villagefest street fair takes place.
Pick up a picnic lunch at Sherman’s deli (401 Tahquitz Canyon Way) before boarding the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. At the top there are unbeatable picnic spots with valley views.
If you’re taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway up Mount San Jacinto, plan on staying late. The stars and valley lights are spectacular.
Before visiting downtown Palm Springs, stop in at Just Fabulous bookstore (515 N. Palm Canyon Drive). They sell vintage postcards, maps of modernist and stars’ homes, and special books on desert architecture.
Why bring home touristy souvenirs? Palm Springs True Value Hardware (233 S Farrell Dr) sells retro chic housewares and gifts. How about a Marilyn Monroe retro alarm clock or a pink flamingo lawn ornament?
When visiting Palm Springs, pick up Wednesday’s edition of the local Desert Sun newspaper. It has numerous 2-for-1 dining offers.
