The Sea Of Cortez


 
Just 100 miles from the southwestern border of the United States, Las Animas Wilderness Retreat is on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. "Mexico's Galapagos" is so remote you must take a small plane and then a boat just to reach it.  World-class fishing (some say the best in the world), snorkeling, whales, dolphins, birds, yurt-living, margaritas and sunset over a beach without electricity or hotels is worth the trouble. Only 20 guests at a time enjoy the magic of a place John Steinbeck called "miraculous." Ever swim with a 16-foot whale shark?  Here, it's a piece of cake.

Tips in this Tour:
Your luggage limit on the little airplanes is 20 pounds, so pack carefully, eliminating heavy books, as Las Animas has a good library filled with excellent reading related to the flora and fauna of this area.
The most important clothing item will be a hat with a brim all around it.  A baseball cap is not enough.  This is Mexican sun.  it will leave you with a red, sore neck.
The next most important clothing is a long-sleeved coverup.  If you don't have one, the unrelenting sun will cook your forearms, back, and whatever else is exposed.
We found sun cream up to 85+ to be very, very useful in this desert environment.
Although the equipment list includes a water bottle, disregard this, as the staff will give you your own bottle and felt-tip your name on it for the duration of your stay.
